Publish a release group

1 min readUpdated October 28, 2026

A release group holds articles until a date, a feature flag, or your word, then publishes them together. Use one when articles describe something customers can’t see yet.

Before you start

  • The articles are marked ready and wait under Next publish on Ready to Publish. See Publish articles.
  • For a flag: Docmunk knows each flag’s state from Flagsmith, or from Mark it on on Product › Flags.

1. Make the group

On Ready to Publish, select + New group. In New release group:

  • Name: what goes out, such as a feature’s name.

  • Articles: the articles to hold, picked from Next publish.

  • When it goes out:

    • On a date: at the Day and Time you set.
    • When a feature flag turns on in production: once the Flag you pick is on for everyone.
    • Keep it ready and decide later: only when you publish it.

Select Create group. The group shows under Release groups.

Making a release group, from + New group to When it goes out

On Ready to Publish, select articles under Next publish and select Move to group. From an article’s page, select Ready to Publish, choose Publish later, and pick the group under Release group. For an article that’s already live, see Live changed underneath.

3. Publish the group early

Open the group’s … menu, select Publish now, then select Publish. When its flag is not on for everyone yet, the button reads Publish anyway: readers would see help for a feature they can’t use.

The same menu has Edit group….

Choosing when it goes out

  • The feature sits behind a flag: choose the flag, so the articles go out when customers can use it.
  • A launch has a date: choose On a date.
  • You’re not sure yet: choose Keep it ready and decide later.
